Outreach Programs

Connect-burtonheights-2006

Students attend a Project Connect session in Burton Heights (see Project Connect).

Calvin has built a number of programs designed to reach out to under-represented groups in computing. These programs include:

  • Digital DivideProject Connect attempts to bridge the so called “digital divide” by running a summer program through which people with limited access to computers get free computers, IT literacy training and helpdesk services. Numerous faculty members, staff and students have been involved in this program over the years.

  • Women in Computing – The Alice summer camps attempt to promote computing as a vocation by providing an engaging introduction to programming. These camps target middle school students, particularly women, encouraging them to consider using their creative problem solving gifts in the computing field.
